Society Funding

Big ideas, big plans? Don’t worry, help is at hand…

We have more than £10,000 available for affiliated societies to apply for a share of (low-income societies are not eligible to apply).

To make a funding application all you need is a completed application form, a clear case for why you need the funding and how you meet the funding criteria, and a completed society budget. Your group could have the funding to kick start the idea sat in the society bank account a month after you have applied.

All decisions for the funding awarded are made by student representatives who sit on the Societies Committee. This committee reviews funding applications on average four times a term, so please factor this into your cash flow and activity plan. We cannot fund activity that has already happened, and can’t guarantee funding will be awarded to each application submitted.

What you need to do:

  • Have a clear understanding of the timeframes to spend the money – it can take a month for you to receive agreement to fund from the Societies Committee so your activity can’t happen in this time

  • Tell us how you’re going to include students’ union branding and logos in your society activity – if we’re supporting your idea we want everyone to know!

  • Complete the application form – you can submit a funding request at any time of year for activity happening within the financial year (1st August – 31st July)

  • Speak to a member of the team! We would strongly recommend discussing your proposal with a member of the Societies Team before submitting so we can ensure your application stands the highest chance of being successful. You can drop in and speak to a member of the team between 12pm4pm Monday – Friday.
